Lubumbashi, September 9, 2024 – Rawbank and Street Child United (SCU) are pleased to announce the official launch of the “1 Million Hopes” development program dedicated to sports and education in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
This innovative partnership aims to improve the skills and independence of Congolese children. Over a four-year period, the program will be implemented in two phases.
The first two years (2023–2024) will implement a “train the trainers” program for partner organizations working in the DRC, offering football sessions and human rights workshops.
Starting in 2025, the second phase will focus on capacity building in advocacy, media, and fundraising, preparing a team of boys and girls from the DRC to compete in the Street Children’s World Cup in North America in 2026.
John Wroe, Founder and CEO of SCU, emphasized: “This promising partnership aims to offer Congolese youth who have suffered years of conflict and disease hope and the opportunity to create a better future.”
Mustafa Rawji, CEO of Rawbank, added: “We believe that every child has the right to play and thrive, regardless of their background or economic status. This program will have a positive impact on the lives of Congolese children and their communities.”
In support, 100,000 balls will be distributed as part of the program starting in 2024 to prepare children for qualification for the final tournament.
