Rawbank and Street Child United launch the “1 Million Hopes” development program for children in the DRC

Lubumbashi, 09 September 2024 – Rawbank and Street Child United (SCU) are pleased to announce the official launch of the “1 Million Hopes” development program dedicated to sports and education in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

This innovative partnership aims to improve the skills and independence of Congolese children. Over a four-year period, the program will be carried out in two phases.

The first two years (2023 – 2024) will focus on setting up a “train the trainer” program for partner organizations working in the DRC, offering football sessions and human rights workshops.

Starting in 2025, the second phase will concentrate on strengthening advocacy, media, and fundraising capacities, thus preparing a team of boys and girls from the DRC to participate in the 2026 Street Child World Cup in North America.

John Wroe, Founder and CEO of SCU, emphasized: “This promising partnership aims to give Congolese youth who have suffered through years of conflict and disease the hope and opportunity to create a better future.”

Mustafa Rawji, CEO of Rawbank, added: “We believe every child has the right to play and thrive, regardless of their background or economic situation. This program will spread positive impacts on the lives of Congolese children and their communities.”

In support, 100,000 footballs will be distributed as part of the program starting in 2024 to prepare the children for qualifying for the final tournament.
