A leading bank in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rawbank has pursued a clear vision since its launch: Serving the Congolese people by building a better and sustainable future around three priority areas: human capital, operational efficiency, and sustainable development.

More specifically, for thirteen years, Rawbank has been committed to sharing and giving back to society, by approving projects with strong social and environmental impact each year. This translates into the implementation of 6 priority SDGs internally and externally which constitute the driving force behind the positive transformations of Rawbank’s action as a responsible bank: poverty eradication (SDG 1), health (SDG 3), education (SDG 4), access to water (SDG 6), gender equality (SDG 5) and the fight against climate change (SDG 13).

Since November 2021, Rawbank has developed a drinking water supply project for populations in rural areas affected by the absence or shortage of water across the country. In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) estimates the access rate to drinking water at 52%, meaning that more than 45 million people lack direct access to safe drinking water. In just two years, forty boreholes in 25 cities across the country have been built, reducing the risk of waterborne diseases for local populations. Each borehole represents hope for local populations, providing them with essential access to water, improving their health, and promoting the development of their communities.

The bank aims to provide 100 wells, built in collaboration with local contractors and technicians, by 2025.

In this project, Rawbank is supported by the National Episcopal Conference of Congo (CENCO) in selecting towns, villages, and cities with a high need for drinking water. The National Institute for Biomedical Research (INRB) monitors the water quality of the various facilities.

By investing in projects such as the construction of drinking water boreholes, Rawbank actively contributes to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6, which aims to ensure access to water and sanitation for all. By aligning with this global vision, Rawbank demonstrates its responsibility as a corporate citizen and its commitment to a sustainable future for the DRC.
